Hope for a future

Fostering Independence serves young adults ages 18-24 who have aged out of foster care.

Our program offers connection to housing, career and educational support, mentorship and area resources in an effort to create a smooth transition from foster care to independent living.

Every aspect of our program is carefully crafted to align with our training in trauma informed care.
Purposefully and wholly showing up and making everyone feel seen, heard and valued.

23,000 young adults will age out of the foster care system each year. The odds are stacked against them…

Only 3% will ever earn a college degree

Despite having a tuition waiver, that will pay for 100% of college tuition, few will ever utilize this benefit.
20% Are Instantly Homeless at 18

Many youth struggle finding housing after aging out of foster care resulting in homelessness.
70% will become parents by age 21

Many of which will repeat cycles of foster care involvement in their families.
50% will struggle with substance abuse

Self-medicating with drugs and alcohol are common problems for this demographic.
60% will be victims of human trafficking

Without a support system and stability in their lives, falling victim to trafficking is common.
Lacking Personal Documents

Many age out without an ID, Driver’s License or other necessary documents creating barriers to their success.
Abusive Relationships

Many will tolerate or seek out abusive relationships. This can be related to familiarity, lack of knowledge or self-esteem issues.
50% Employed

Only 50% of all who age out will be employed at age 24. Lack of resources and support play a large role in this statistic.
